At Lease a Bike, we have made a promise to make the world a little greener. We not only want to help other companies become more sustainable, but also make a major contribution to environmental protection ourselves.
Our mission is clear: we want to inspire employees to switch to cycling. We also want to make a contribution to society and the planet by creating or supporting sustainable cycling and health initiatives. As a company, we are aware of our special social responsibility. As part of this, we want to contribute to solving the challenges of tomorrow. Together with our partners.
To this end, we are active in various areas: Society. Planet. People. We want to facilitate access to emission-free mobility solutions for as many people as possible. We also want to take responsibility and operate more sustainably as a company. We are also focussing on our employees. We want to invest in and support our team.
We support our fellow human beings by enabling the use of emission-free mobility and making it more accessible to them, for example by donating bikes to charitable organisations.
We are aware of our responsibility: to improve the sustainability of our company and our supply chain. That is why we are focussing on offsetting and reducing our CO₂ emissions.
Supporting employees is one of our main objectives in order to strengthen Lease a Bike in the long term. This includes, for example, the education and health of our employees.
We publish an annual CSR report and explain our progress in the area of sustainability on our website. We are also committed to adapting our measures to the current state of the climate crisis.

We plant climate-stable trees in Germany. At the same time, we offset our team's CO₂ emissions by supporting climate protection projects worldwide with our partner Planted. Our digital company forest shows you how many trees we have already been able to plant in cooperation.
In line with the climate agreement, we will reduce our carbon footprint per employee by 55% by 2030. We are gaining insights into emissions from gas, electricity, vehicles, public transport, air travel and, in future, waste. To minimise our CO₂ emissions, we purchase green electricity and are gradually switching to electric vehicles. We are also reducing our heating by 1° and encouraging our employees to cycle and use our own products. In this way, we want to raise awareness of sustainable behaviour within the company and encourage our employees to pay attention to sustainable processes in their day-to-day work.
As a Group, we think outside the box and donate 100 reusable bicycles every year to certified organisations that promote easy access to green mobility. In this context, for example, we have also organised a driving safety training course for children and young people at the Hephata Foundation together with our cooperation partner Borussia Mönchengladbach. We also support social projects such as flowering meadows in the region and organise our own charity campaigns such as Bike to Work Days.
Our employees are the heart of the company. That's why we support our employees with further training and promote health and fitness programmes such as Hansefit. We also favour the bike leasing of our employees and serve vegetarian and vegan alternatives at team events.

‘We are proud to contribute to a greener future with environmentally friendly mobility solutions. We actively promote sustainable strategies and processes in our company so that our internal processes also have a positive impact on the environment. We are convinced that by working together with our customers and partners, we can make a difference to create a more sustainable future together,’ says Christian Wölbern - Managing Director, Lease a Bike Germany.
On 6 December, Lease a Bike provided a special surprise for the SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. association just in time for St. Nicholas Day: we donated 50 bikes, including e-bikes, to the aid organisation for use by educational staff. The donation was handed over at the SOS Children's Village in Düsseldorf. Half of the bikes will be sent to the SOS Children's Village in Essen.
We are aiming at expanding our collaborations with regional partners to broaden our community outreach. For example, with possible new projects with local schools or other institutions.
We'd like to encourage our colleagues to get personally involved in the company's sustainability mission. For example, by initiating field-trip projects for company days with nature conservation groups.
As well, we aim at further including our broader community in our CSR mission. For example, by bringing initiatives to life, like the Bike to Work Days, where stakeholders have the possibility to make their own contribution.
To coincide with World Bicycle Day on June 3, 2024, the company bike leasing provider Lease a Bike organized the "Bike to Work Days" for the first time. In this fundraising campaign, participants collected kilometers on their way to work by bike for a good cause. Lease a Bike then donated 1 euro to the SOS Children's Village Düsseldorf for every kilometer cycled.
In times when the threats posed by climate change are becoming ever more tangible, it is essential for companies to take responsibility and implement sustainable measures. As part of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we are realizing milestones in our CSR efforts with our partner Planted. This partnership marks another step on our journey to becoming a more sustainable and environmentally conscious company.
Since 2017, the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC) has been awarding the coveted EU-wide “Bicycle-friendly employer” certificate. Now the company bike leasing provider Lease a Bike in Cloppenburg has received the highest award in ‘Gold’.
